FAQ

Question: What should I bear in mind when choosing a radiator?

Answer: Basically, there are four factors which affect the choice of radiator:

1. Your heating needs (how much heat should the radiator supply?).
2. Your temperature set (flow temperature, return temperature, room temperature).
3. The amount of available space (radiator size).
4. The desired model / design (models vary greatly in heat output).

Question: How can I take into account another temperature set other than the 70/40/20°C which is standard in Denmark?

Answer: Ribe Jernindustri has drawn up conversion tables, allowing the required radiator output to be calculated from any specific temperature set.
The tables are available under individual products for downloading from this website.

Question: What do I do if my radiator becomes scratched?

Answer:

Repair the scratch using a touch-up paint stick in the required RAL colour (RAL 9010 white is the standard colour). Paint sticks are available from your local BSS branch.

Question: What type of paint should I use to paint/repaint a radiator?

Answer:

Radiator paint is available as spray paint (in an aerosol), liquid paint or paint stick.

These are available from the local BSS branch.
The standard colour of our radiators is RAL 9010 white.

Procedure for repainting powder-coated or wet-painted radiators:
- Clean the radiator.
- If the radiator was originally powder coated, use PE powder paint.
- If the radiator was originally wet painted, use synthetic, non-yellowing paint.
- The paint should be water based or similar acrylic paint.
- Allow sufficient curing time in accordance with the instructions for the paint concerned.

Question: What type of paint should I use to touch up paint damage to a radiator?

Answer:

The paintwork of powder-coated or wet-painted radiators can be repaired with water-based acrylic paint.
Aerosols of repair paint are available from heating and sanitary engineers or heating and sanitary wholesalers.

The standard colour of our radiators is RAL 9010 White.

Question: In which colours are RIOpanel radiators available?

Answer:

The standard colour is RAL 9010 White.

Radiators are also available in all other standard RAL colours at a surcharge.

Question: Which tapping possibilities are there?

Answer:
Standard tapping is ½” at top and ½" at bottom  (horizontal) of each radiator end
– i.e. a total of four tappings (we call this ABCD tapping).

The following possibilities are also available:
- Upward facing (vertical) tapping with 2 x ½” at the top of the radiator (GH tapping).
- Downward facing (vertical) tapping with 2 x ½” at the bottom of the radiator (EF tapping).

An ETS/DS valve system is also available for tapping into the bottom of the radiator.
– For further details of this possibility, see "Products" - "RIOpanel valve system ETS/DS".

There are also many other possibilities.
These are described in catalogue sections and data sheets which can be downloaded from the website under individual products – or under "DOWNLOADS".

Question: In which sizes are the radiators available?

Answer:

The most common radiator dimensions are:

- Length: 200-4000 mm, in increments of 100 mm
- Height: 255, 355, 455, 555, 655 or 955
- Depth: depends on the product type chosen

All radiator types and radiator dimensions are described in data sheets which can be downloaded from the website under individual products – or under "DOWNLOADS".

Question: Are spare parts available for built-in and visible valve systems?

Answer:

Both complete valves and spare parts are kept in stock and can be ordered from heating and sanitary engineers or heating and sanitary wholesalers.

Question: What is the delivery time for a RIOpanel radiator?

Answer: Radiators in our QUICK programme (stock products) can be delivered from day to day.
Delivery time for made-to-order radiators is generally three to five weeks.

Question: What radiator output do I need for my sitting room?

Answer:

The required radiator output is determined by a number of parameters, including:

- The size of your sitting room.

- The age of your house (sitting room).

- Whether the house (sitting room) has been insulated since it was built (ceiling, walls, floor).

- Whether new energy-saving windows have been fitted.

- - -

Usually, somewhere between 30 and 100 W/m2 is required – see the examples below.

Please note that the data used in the examples is for guidance purposes only!! – For more exact calculations, please contact an engineering consultant or heating and sanitary engineer.

- - -

Example 1:

Houses from the 1960s which have not been insulated since being built:

approx. 100 W/m2 floor.

Example 2:

Houses from the 1970s or 1980s which have been insulated since being built:

50-60 W/m2 floor.

Example 3:

New houses:

25-30 W/m2 floor.

- - -

Note!

The above should only be treated as rules of thumb.

If it is necessary to know the required output more exactly, heat loss calculations must be performed.

These are usually performed by an engineer and are not available from Ribe Jernindustri.

Question: Are radiators available with other than ½” tappings?

Question: Are radiators available with other than ½” tappings?

Answer:

Yes. Nipple sleeve adapters are available for 3/8” and 3/4” piping.

Question: What do RIO / RIOpanel radiators cost?

Answer:

We do not reveal our prices to private customers. For information on prices, please contact your local BSS branch.

Question: What kind of trench heater should I choose for my sitting room?

Answer:

The choice depends on what the heater is to be used for in the room concerned.

If the heater's sole function is to compensate for cold down-draughts in front of full-height glazing (i.e. the room is heated by other heat sources):

- Where normal full-height glazing is concerned (max. 3x3 m), models WITHOUT fan can be used.

– Where higher full-height glazing is concerned, models WITH fan are recommended.

If the heater is intended to be the only source of heat in the room:

- Think again. There should generally be another heat source in the room!

Question: How big should the convector pit be?

Answer:

Convector pit dimensions are described in the catalogue section for RIOpanel LK under "Products" - "RIOpanel LK" – or under "DOWNLOADS".

Question: Can compact equipment be retrofitted to a radiator which is already installed?

Answer:

This is only possible if the radiator was manufactured after year 2000.

The radiator must be taken down for the compact equipment to be retrofitted.

Question: Can feet be attached to all RIOpanel radiators?

Answer:

Panel radiator feet are suitable for:

- Radiator types RIOpanel Standard, Compact, Plan and Integral

- Heights 255, 355, 455 or 555

- Models PKP/21, 1PK/11, 2PK/22 or 3PK/33

- Radiator types RIOpanel Standard, Compact, Plan and Integral

- Heights 655 or 955

- Models 2PK/22 or 3PK/33

- All LK convectors.

Question: Can a flat front panel be fitted to a radiator which is already installed?

Answer:

Yes, it can, although it is both cheaper and easier to order a radiator with flat front to begin with.
